This is India! 89

Welcome back to This is India! I always have funny/weird stories about India to share with friends or family when I talk to them. This is just meant to be an honest portrayal about my life in India through short anecdotes. I also share here what I’ve been up to online outside Werkenntwen.

What I was up to other than here:

  • I don’t know if I shared these before: Werkenntwen was listed on this list of top 25 travel blogs for 2015 which was based on DA (Domain Authority) which means basically that Google likes my blog! So that’s a good thing, haha. I also contributed to this article which was picked up by Huffington Post.
  • I got back from Istanbul this week and have unbelievable amounts of work to do. Naturally, I spent to much time at the beach and not working (I am back to square one on my tan) so now I’m still playing catch up.
  • It was Ben’s birthday yesterday! We celebrated here in Goa but are planning to have the real celebration in Sri Lanka when he gets some time off work. He turned 30!!
  • I just read
We Are All Completely Beside Ourselves and it was very good. It had a cool twist in the middle so I can’t even tell  you what it’s about! Now I’m reading
The Girl on the Train which won a bunch of awards and it good so far. Loving my Kindle!

Now your story,

Guess what! I don’t have a story this week so instead of skipping, because I have never skipped in 89 weeks, I thought I’d just share a photo from my travels up to the NE of a mans shop that made me laugh. He has so many things!!

He also had a table of fireworks on the front of all that. this is india 89

Indian markets are crazy and I sometimes forget to share the basic things about my every day life here, which is that I do my shopping in Mapusa market which can be pretty hectic. This guy will pack that shop up completely at night and put every single thing away just to take it all back out in the AM!

This is India!

Hi Rachel I have been reading your articles on India having searched for info on Indian travel. I am an artist interested in myths and narratives, its been my intention for a while now to explore India embrace and create with inspiration from its spiritual and colourful culture. My recently deceased father told me to visit Cochin and I have heard positive things about the Kerala region. I also have a fascintaion with the railways and the tea laden hills.
Any advice for safe lo budget spiritural and cultural immersion into India for a 57 year old female artist ex hairdresser would be very welcome! Warm Regards Susan

Nice! And Great idea to keep up the momentum with a photo post instead – I’ve faced the conundrum of what to do with this before, and often resort to photos. I guess a picture really can say a thousand words :)

Yes! I didn’t want to not post, but I do remember a reader telling me once I was boring when I put up photos of a petrol pump! hahahah!
