This is India! 112

Welcome back to This is India! I always have funny/weird stories about India to share with friends or family when I talk to them. This is just meant to be an honest portrayal about my life in India through short anecdotes. I also share here what I’ve been up to online outside Werkenntwen.

What I was up to other than here:

  • This week I’m just chillin… planning two trips that I didn’t expect to take this year which I’ll be taking in October. One of them is solo, and one will be with a friend from Goa.
  • Ben is off in the mountains… I am crossing my fingers that he DOES NOT bring another dog home with him… or send one back to Goa on a train with a rickshaw driver, which, yes, he’s done before.
  • I’m reading the second
(yes, there’s a sequel!). I’ve been eating all kinds of good stuff and will write a blog post like I did last year on all the best stuff I ate while I was in the US… probably only I will read it, but that’s cool. This week I started my Florida articles, and there are about 7 more of them coming. Florida was amazing!
  • Last minute planning for Nashville is starting. Ben will be here in Ohio on the 3rd of August (Wednesday) and on the 4th we head to Nashville with the whole family for 4 days. I am SO EXCITED!! Any tips?

Now your story,

Today I’m taking you on a journey to the dentist lol!

I was driving out to Calangute, about minutes from my house, dodging cows and morons on scooters, thinking man this shit never happens in Ohio… my life is super wierd sometimes.

Then I parked our huge Bolero in a tiny little place on the side of the road between dozens of scooters jammed packed thinking in the US I would either get a ticket or towed… here I don’t even look at signs.

I stepped over cow poop and jumped over puddles while people stared wondering why I was driving a big ass Maharashtra car in Goa, as I walked toward my dentist office. I’ve been going to this place since I moved here and they still don’t remember me haha. They always looked in my mouth shocked (every 6 months) and say wow you have good oral hygiene!

I wrote a post before about how they told me not to come back for a while because my teeth were very nice.

This is the entrance to the dentist…

I just turn let at the hair dressers sign….

Then I walk down this hall which you can see at the end says (cut off) “Calangute Dental Clinic”.

If you peak through the door below, it opens into a veggie market – so you don’t want to go there! You have to turn right and go up the stairs another floor.13441568_10206997222075316_788478289_o

When you get to the next landed which is just a turn to another flight of stairs, you’ll see the tailor. This is his little shop, he was on chai break.13461038_10206997221635305_1205723469_oUp one more flight of stair and we’re here! The very clean, hidden in the middle of the chaos dentist office! I had my teeth cleaned for $14 and was given some mouthwash and floss before being sent on my way. The teeth cleaning is definitely different in India (as everything is) but it gets the job done

13445916_10206997221715307_116798562_o A bit of a random thing to share, but it seems everything I do here (even going to the dentist or getting petrol) is so different from how it’s done back home! All these small things add up in a day to make you feel like you’re living a very strange life sometimes :)
